handle junior center Mary Williams, who had 25 points and 19 rebounds. Williams' outburst allowed Rialto to pull away in the second half for a 76 60 victory in a CIF State Division II Southern California Regional semifinal Saturday night at Rialto High. "That was the game plan all along," Rialto coach Michael Anderson said of getting the ball to Williams. "We just did a better job of that in the second half." Rialto (32 3), the CIF SS Division 2AA champion, advanced to the regional final. Harvard Westlake, the CIF SS Division 2A runner up, finished 26 10. "To say it was a success is an understatement," Wolverines coach Melissa Hearlihy said of the season. "We graduated eight seniors from last year's team, including three Division I players. We weren't supposed to be very good. I guess we were." Rialto, the top seed in Division II, led 36 35 at halftime, with leading scorer Sharpe scoring just six points. "I told her (at halftime), This might not be the night you score 20 or 30,' " Anderson said. "And she didn't force it, and played defense." Sharpe managed just 11 points, nearly 14 points below her average, but the Wolverines had no answer for Williams. "Our plan was to contain No. 3 (Sharpe), and we thought we could do a better job on No. 32 (Williams)," Hearlihy said, "but she's just so athletic." The Knights opened the second half on an 18 2 run, and Harvard Westlake never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way. "I think when they started with the 7 0 run, that just took all the momentum," Hearlihy said. "This means so much to me and the girls," Anderson said. "I came in here three years ago. We don't have a lot of travel ball players other than Janae, but we have a bunch of girls who bought into the system." Starter Summer Ramsey picked up three fouls in limited action in the first half, and picked up her fourth almost right after she entered the game in the fourth quarter, but Ramsey's absence wasn't as much of an issue for Rialto as it might have been for other teams. "She's good at stopping penetration," Anderson said of Ramsey, "but they stayed Nike Flyknit 4.0 Red shooting from the outside." Brittani Walker, Sharpe and Bianca Brown each had 11 points for Rialto. "Bianca Brown came in and just shot the lights out," Anderson said. Harvard Westlake remained close in the first half with potent outside shooting. Natalie Florescu (19 points), Skylar Tsutsui (18) and Esther Lee (14) each had two of their three 3 pointers in the first half. Harvard Westlake ended the first quarter on a 12 2 run to take a 19 15 lead into the second. Rialto trailed early largely because of anemic free throw shooting.
